Sleeping in a Treehouse: Acre Baja

When you think of Cabo Mexico what is the first thing that comes to mind? For many it’s probably a party scene for young adults or towering beach resorts. While this is true of Cabo San Lucas there are many other experiences to be had at the bottom of Baja California, Mexico.

Nestled in a desert jungle is Acre, a new hotel in San Jose del Cabo. It’s off the beaten path and away from the ocean but less than a 30 minute drive from the airport. Acre is a large property that contains individual treehouses for guests to stay in, residential villas, a luxurious pool, two restaurants, and an animal rescue area.

Our treehouse hidden in the palm trees.

Our treehouse was one of twelve and required climbing two flights of stairs to get to it. The space is small but thoughtfully designed with a comfortable king bed, bathroom, deck, and outdoor shower.

Acre is stunning in itself but the magic is also in the details. There were delicious meringue cookies and roasted almonds as a welcome snack, plenty of bottled water for us, and robes made from local artisans.

We dropped our bags and headed to see the rescued animals on the property. There were puppies, rabbits, chickens, peacocks, goats, donkey’s pigs, horses and more! Afterwards we made our way to the outdoor bar for a drink before going to dinner at Flora Farms (a farm-to-table restaurant just down the road). I ordered their Acre’s house margarita and was not disappointed!

I am a light sleeper so I brought an eye mask but forgot ear plugs. Thankfully there were ear plugs provided in the room- a nice touch given the walls of the treehouse don’t keep out noise. Edgar and I both slept really well!

In the morning we ate our complimentary breakfast (a pastry, juice, and coffee drink) at Fausto’s Diner and ordered an omelette to share. Everything was delicious! After breakfast we went to the outdoor pool for morning yoga (free for all guests on weekends). We happened to be the only two in attendance and had a private yoga class! Our instructor was awesome and it was definitely a highlight of our stay.

We quickly utilized the outdoor shower which was a fun experience before checking out. The staff at Acre is great and let us lounge by the pool even after we checked out. Acre exceeded my already high expectations. Definitely a unique experience that I would recommend for anyone traveling to San Jose del Cabo.
